Pretensioners

~1min read

The vehicle is equipped with pretensioners for the front seat belts which, in the event of a severe frontal impact, pull the belt webbing back a few centimetres, ensuring that the seat belts fit snugly against the occupants' bodies before the restraining action begins.

Activation of the pretensioners can be recognised by the webbing retracting towards the retractor. The vehicle is also equipped with a second pretensioner device (installed in the sill area): activation can be recognised by the shortening of the metal cable.

A slight emission of smoke may occur when the pretensioner activates; this smoke is not harmful and does not indicate a fire.

The pretensioner requires no maintenance or lubrication.

Any modification to its original condition will invalidate its effectiveness.

If the device has been reached by water and/or mud due to exceptional natural events (e.g. floods, storm surges, etc.), contact an authorised Fiat Service Centre to have it replaced.

WARNING: To obtain maximum protection from the pretensioner, wear the seat belt keeping it snug against the chest and hips.

Load limiters

To increase the protection offered to occupants in the event of an accident, the retractors contain a device that appropriately limits the force acting on the chest and shoulders during restraint by the seat belts in the event of a frontal impact.
