Manual Transmission
To engage a gear, fully depress the clutch pedal and move the gear lever to the desired position (the gear shift pattern is shown on the gear lever knob, fig. 67).

On the 6-speed gearbox (for versions/markets where provided), to engage reverse gear R from neutral, lift ring A (fig. 67), located under the gear lever knob, and at the same time move the lever to the right, then rearward.
WARNING Reverse gear may only be engaged when the vehicle has come to a complete stop. With the engine running, wait at least 2 seconds with the clutch pedal fully depressed before engaging reverse gear, to avoid damaging the gears and grinding.
WARNING Use the clutch pedal only for changing gears. Do not drive with your foot resting, even lightly, on the clutch pedal. Where provided (for versions/markets), the electronic clutch pedal control may intervene, interpreting incorrect driving style as a fault.
CAUTION
109) To change gears correctly, fully depress the clutch pedal. Therefore, there must be no obstacles on the floor under the pedals: make sure any floor mats are properly positioned and do not interfere with pedal operation.
CAUTION
34) Do not drive with your hand resting on the gear lever, as even light pressure during long journeys may cause wear of the internal gearbox components.
