DIAGNOSTIC TEST A: EXCESSIVE WIND NOISE FROM THE SUNROOF

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The sunroof motor must be initialized when repairs are performed on any part of the sunroof system or when the sunroof motor, glass, assembly, or air deflector has been removed or replaced for any reason. Refer to: Power Sunroof Initialization (Sunroof 501-17, General Procedures).

During normal operation, the sunroof closes tightly and evenly against the roof, preventing wind noise. Any change in alignment or lack of sealing will cause wind noise.

Possible Sources

  • Sunroof panel misaligned
  • Sunroof glass seals

Visual Inspection and Pre-checks

  • Roof Opening Seals
A1 CHECK THE SUNROOF GLASS PANEL SEALS
  • Check the sunroof glass panel seals for:
    • looseness
    • cracking
    • pinching
    • obstructions

Are the seals OK?
Yes GO to A2
No REPAIR as necessary.
A2 CHECK THE SUNROOF GLASS PANEL ALIGNMENT
  • The ignition is on.
  • Open and close the sunroof glass panel.
  • Check the sunroof glass panel alignment after closing.

Is the alignment correct?
Yes Test drive the vehicle. If wind noise is still present, ALIGN the sunroof glass panel for more precise tolerance within specification.
Refer to: Sunroof Panel Alignment (501-17 Sunroof, General Procedures).
No ALIGN the sunroof glass panel.
Refer to: Sunroof Panel Alignment (501-17 Sunroof, General Procedures).
DIAGNOSTIC TEST B: SUNROOF PANEL LEAKS

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

When the sunroof glass panel is fully closed, it is flush with the roof panel. The sunroof seal provides insulation against adverse weather conditions such as rain and wind, preventing them from entering the cabin. A damaged, deformed, or improperly installed seal cannot effectively seal the glass. The sunroof trough assembly and drain hoses provide a path for water to drain from the opening panel. Damaged or clogged drain hoses or trough assembly will allow water to collect and possibly leak into the cabin.

  • Sunroof panel frame damaged
  • Sunroof glass panel improperly positioned

DIAGNOSTIC TEST C: SUNROOF PANEL IS DIRTY

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

When the sunroof glass is fully closed, it is flush with the roof panel. All components must be properly secured. The sunroof system consists of many components that require specified torque values and correct installation to avoid NVH concerns. Over time, components may loosen or become damaged, fasteners may loosen, insulation material may wear, and foreign objects may accumulate in the sunroof frame. One or more of these conditions may cause rattling in the sunroof panel system.

No REPAIR as necessary.
DIAGNOSTIC TEST D: SUNROOF PANEL MAKES NOISE DURING OPERATION

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

When the roof opening panel glass closes, it should do so quietly and smoothly. The sunroof system is made up of many components that require specific torque values and correct installation to avoid NVH concerns. Over time, components may loosen or become damaged, attachments may loosen, sound insulation material may wear, and foreign objects may collect in the roof opening panel frame. DIAGNOSTIC TEST E: SUNROOF PANEL DOES NOT OPEN, CLOSE, OR VENT

For schematics and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 101.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The sunroof opening panel motor receives battery voltage at all times from BCM fuse F24 (30A) on circuit SBP24 (VT-RD), and receives ignition voltage (including accessory delay) from BCM fuse F2 (10A) on circuit CBP02 (GN). The sunroof opening panel motor and switch are grounded through circuit GD349 (BK/GY). When the sunroof opening panel open switch is pressed, a ground signal is sent to the sunroof opening panel motor through circuit CPR31 (VT/BN), which causes the sunroof opening panel to open. When the sunroof opening panel close switch is pressed, a ground signal is sent to the sunroof opening panel motor through circuit CPR40 (YE/OG), which causes the sunroof opening panel to close.

If the communication circuit between the sunroof motor and the shade (sun shade) motor is open or shorted, the sunroof motor will fully close the sunroof only once, after which it will not operate. Also, if the communication circuit is open or shorted, the shade (sun shade) motor will fully open, then operate only between fully open and the front fixed glass panel. The communication circuit is between the motors and is not for diagnosis.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The sunshade motor is continuously supplied with battery voltage from BCM fuse F24 (30A) on circuit SBP24 (VT-RD), and with ignition voltage (including auxiliary delay) from BCM fuse F2 (10A) on circuit CBP02 (GN). The roof opening panel motor and switch are grounded through circuit GD349 (BK/GY). DIAGNOSTIC TEST G: ONE-TOUCH OPEN/CLOSE DOES NOT WORK

For schematics and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 101.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

When the sunroof open switch is pressed to the second detent position, a signal is sent to the sunroof motor through circuit CPR31 (VT/BN), which causes the sunroof to perform a one-touch open operation. When the sunroof is open and the sunroof close switch is pressed to the second detent position, a signal is sent to the sunroof motor through circuit CPR40 (YE/OG), which causes the sunroof to perform a one-touch close operation. If the sunshade is closed when the sunroof motor is commanded to perform a one-touch open operation, the motors will communicate and the sunshade motor will automatically perform a one-touch open operation, then the sunroof motor will perform a one-touch open operation.

If the communication circuit between the sunroof motor and the sunshade motor is open or shorted, the sunroof motor will only operate to fully close the sunroof 1 time and then will not operate; and the sunshade motor will open to the front of the fixed glass panel, then operate between fully open and the front of the fixed glass panel.

When the sunshade open switch is pressed to the second detent position, a signal is sent to the sunshade through circuit CPR86 (GY/BN), which causes the sunshade to perform a one-touch open operation. When the sunshade close switch is pressed, a signal is sent to the sunshade through circuit CPR85 (GN/WH), which causes the sunshade to close. If the sunshade is closed or fully open and a one-touch operation is requested, the sunshade will stop at the front of the fixed glass panel, and a second one-touch request is required to fully open or close the sunshade. If the sunroof is open when the sunshade motor is commanded to perform a one-touch close operation, the motors will communicate and the sunroof motor will automatically perform a one-touch close operation, then the sunroof motor will perform a one-touch close operation.

If the communication circuit between the sunroof motor and the sunshade motor is open or shorted, the sunroof motor will fully close the panel only once, after which it will not operate. Also, if the communication circuit is open or shorted, the sunshade motor will fully open, then operate only between fully open and the front fixed glass panel.
