Seat Belts

Principle of Operation

~2min read

All seating positions in your vehicle are equipped with lap and shoulder seat belts. All occupants must always properly wear their seat belts, even though a supplemental restraint system with airbags is provided.

The seat belt system consists of:

  • Lap and shoulder seat belts.
  • Shoulder belt with automatic locking retractor (except driver's seat belt).
  • Height adjuster on the outboard front seats.
  • Seat belt pretensioners on the outboard front seats and outboard second-row seating positions.
  • Seat belt tension sensor on the outboard front passenger seat.
  • Unbelted warning light and chime.
  • Crash sensors and monitoring system with ready indicator.

Seat belt pretensioners are designed to tighten the seat belts when deployed. In frontal and near-frontal crashes, the seat belt pretensioners may deploy alone or, if the crash is severe enough, together with the front airbags. Pretensioners may also activate when the Safety Canopy system deploys.
