Universal Garage Door Opener
HomeLink Wireless Control System

The universal garage door opener replaces a conventional hand-held garage door opener with a three-button transmitter built into the driver's sunvisor.
The system includes two main functions: a garage door opener and a platform for remote activation of devices in the home. In addition to the garage door, the system transmitter can be programmed to operate entry gate operators, security systems, entry door locks, and home or office lighting.
Additional information about the system can be found on the Internet at www.homelink.com, www.youtube.com/HomeLinkGentex, or by calling the toll-free help line at 1-800-355-3515.
Programming in the Vehicle
This procedure is used to program your hand-held transmitter to a HomeLink button in the vehicle.

- When the vehicle is parked outside the garage, turn the ignition to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
- Hold the hand-held garage door transmitter 2–6 inches (5–14 cm) away from the HomeLink button you want to program.
- Simultaneously press and hold the desired HomeLink button and the hand-held transmitter button with both hands. Do NOT release either button until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly, then quickly. When the indicator light flashes quickly, release both buttons. A rapid flash indicates successful learning.
- Press and hold the programmed HomeLink button for two seconds, then release. You may need to do this twice to activate the door. If your garage door does not operate, watch the HomeLink indicator light.
If the indicator light stays on, programming is complete. No further action is necessary.
If the indicator light flashes rapidly for 2 seconds and then stays on steadily, the HomeLink button has not yet been programmed. See Garage Door Opener Motor Programming.
To program additional buttons, repeat steps 1–4.

Garage Door Opener Motor Programming

- Press the Learn button on the garage door opener motor, then you have 30 seconds to complete the following two steps.
- Return to your vehicle.

- Press and hold the function button you want to program for 2 seconds, then release. Repeat this step. Depending on the garage door opener brand, you may need to repeat this sequence a third time.
Gate Operator / Canadian Programming
Canadian radio frequency regulations require transmitter signals to time out (or stop) after a few seconds of transmission. This may not be long enough for HomeLink to capture the signal during programming. Similar to this Canadian regulation, some U.S. gate operators are designed to time out in the same way.
- Press and hold the HomeLink button while pressing and releasing your handheld transmitter every two seconds, until the HomeLink indicator changes from a slow to a fast flashing light.
- Release the HomeLink and handheld transmitter buttons.
- Continue programming HomeLink. Refer to Programming in Vehicle.
Erasing Remote Control Codes

- Simultaneously press and hold the two outer function buttons for approximately 20 seconds, until the indicators above the buttons begin to flash rapidly.
- When the indicators flash, release the buttons. The codes for all buttons are erased.
Reprogramming a Single Button
To program the device to a previously trained button, perform the following steps:
- Press and hold the desired button. Do NOT release the button.
- The indicator light will begin to flash after 20 seconds. Without releasing the button, perform step 1 in the "Programming" section.

- Hold the transmitter 1–3 inches (2–8 cm) from the button on the visor that you want to program.
- Press and hold both programmed Genie buttons on the handheld transmitter and the button you want to program. The visor indicator will flash rapidly when programming is successful.
After successfully programming HomeLink, the Genie transmitter must be exited from programming mode. To do this:

Programming is complete.
Clearing HomeLink
To erase the programming of all three HomeLink buttons, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons until the indicator begins to flash. The indicator light will begin to flash after 10–20 seconds, then release both buttons. Programming is now erased, and the indicator should flash slowly to indicate the device is in training mode when any of the three HomeLink buttons is pressed.
