Using the clutch

Note: If the clutch pedal is not fully depressed, gear changes may be more difficult. In addition, transmission components may wear prematurely and the transmission may be damaged.

Note: Do not drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal, nor use it to hold the vehicle stationary when waiting on a slope. These actions will reduce clutch life.

Cambio manuale
Vehicles with manual transmission are fitted with an interlock that prevents the engine from starting unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed.

To start the vehicle:

  1. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
  2. Fully depress the clutch pedal, then move the gear lever to neutral.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Depress the brake pedal and engage the desired gear, 1 (first) or R (reverse).
  5. Release the parking brake, then slowly lift your foot off the clutch pedal while gently pressing the accelerator.
Recommended shift speeds

Note: Do not shift into first (1) from a higher gear when the vehicle is travelling above 24 km/h. This will damage the clutch.

Shift up or down according to the gear shift indicator. For more information, see Warning lights and indicators.

Reverse lights

Note: Make sure the vehicle is completely stationary before engaging reverse (R), otherwise the transmission may be damaged.

Note: Before engaging reverse (R), move the gear lever to the left towards third (3) and fourth (4). This is a locking feature that prevents reverse (R) from being engaged accidentally from fifth (5).

Fully depress the clutch pedal and move the gear lever to neutral. Engage reverse (R).

If reverse (R) is not fully engaged, depress the clutch pedal and return the gear lever to neutral. Release the clutch pedal briefly, then depress it again and re-engage reverse (R).
