Traction control

~1min read
Operating principles

The traction control system prevents the driven wheels from spinning and losing grip.

If the vehicle begins to slip, the system brakes the individual wheels and, if necessary, simultaneously reduces engine power. If the wheels spin during acceleration on slippery or low-grip surfaces, the system reduces engine power to improve traction.

Using traction control

The system activates automatically each time the ignition is switched on.

Note: In certain situations, for example when the vehicle is stuck in snow or mud, switching the system off can be advantageous, as it allows the wheels to spin freely and make full use of the engine power.

Switching the system on and off using the information display controls

The vehicle is delivered with this function already enabled. If required, this function can be switched off using the information display controls. See General information.

The electronic stability control remains active even when traction control is switched off.
