Automatic High Beam Control

~3min read

WARNINGS

  • This system does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with the attention and care required. It may be necessary to use manual control if the system fails to turn the high beams on or off.
  • It may be necessary to use manual control when approaching other road users such as cyclists.
  • Do not use the system in fog.
  • The system may not function in cold weather and in severe weather conditions.

Manual control may then be necessary.

  • The system may not switch off the high beams if the headlamps of oncoming vehicles are blocked by obstacles (for example, crash barriers).
  • Regularly check and replace the wiper blades to ensure the camera sensor has a clear view through the windshield.
  • Replacement wiper blades must be the correct length.

    Note: Keep the windshield free of foreign objects such as bird droppings, insects, snow or ice. Note: Reflective road signs may be detected as oncoming vehicles. In this case, the headlamps may switch to low beams.

    Note: Always fit genuine Ford parts when replacing headlamp bulbs. Using other bulbs may reduce system performance.

    The system automatically switches on the high beams when it is dark enough and no other vehicles are within range. If it detects the headlamps or tail lamps of an approaching vehicle, or street lighting, it switches off the high beams so they do not dazzle other road users. The low beams remain on.

    A camera sensor is mounted in the centre of the windshield. It continuously monitors conditions to decide when to switch the high beams on and off.

    Once the system is activated, the high beams will switch on if:

    • it is dark enough that high beams are required, and;
    • there are no other vehicles or street lighting nearby, and;
    • vehicle speed is above 40 km/h.

    The high beams will switch off if:

    • it is still light enough that high beams are not needed;
    • the headlamps or tail lamps of an approaching vehicle are detected;
    • street lighting is detected;
    • vehicle speed is below 30 km/h;
    • the camera sensor is too hot or is obstructed.

    Switching the system on

    Switch the system on using the information display. See Information Displays (page 89). Set the lighting control to the automatic headlamp position. See Automatic Headlamp Operation.

    Activation du système

    Manual control of the system

    Commande manuelle du système
