Running out of fuel may cause damage that is not covered by the vehicle warranty.

If you run out of fuel:

  • Add at least 5 L of fuel to restart the engine. If your vehicle is on a steep slope when it runs out of fuel, it may be necessary to add a larger quantity of fuel.
  • After adding fuel, it may be necessary to turn the ignition off and back on several times to allow the fuel system to pump fuel from the tank to the engine. Engine starting then takes a few seconds longer than normal.

Filling a Fuel Container

Observe the following instructions to prevent the build-up of static electricity when filling an ungrounded fuel container:

  • When transferring fuel into your vehicle, use only an approved fuel container. Place the container on the ground when filling it.
  • Do not fill the fuel container while it is inside the vehicle (including the load area).
  • Keep the nozzle of the fuel pump in contact with the container during filling.
  • Do not use any device to hold the fuel pump nozzle in the filling position.

Adding Fuel from a Fuel Container

WARNINGS

  • Do not insert the spout of a fuel container or a commercial funnel into the fuel system filler neck.
This could damage the fuel system filler neck or seal. Fuel could then leak onto the ground.
  • Do not force open the fuel system without a cap by pushing or levering with external objects. This could damage the fuel system and seal, and cause injury to you or others.
  • Do not dispose of fuel with household waste or in drains. It must be taken to a waste recovery center.

    • To fill your vehicle's fuel tank from a fuel container, use the plastic funnel supplied with the vehicle. See Fuel Filler Funnel Location (page ?).

    Note: Do not use commercial funnels as they are not compatible with the capless fuel system and could damage it. Note: Capless fuel systems do not have a fuel tank filler cap.

    1. Fully open the fuel filler door until it stops, then remove the fuel tank filler cap.

    1. Insert the plastic funnel into the fuel tank filler pipe opening.
    2. Fill the vehicle's fuel tank using the fuel container.
    3. Remove the plastic funnel from the fuel tank filler pipe opening.
    4. Reinstall the fuel tank filler cap, then close the fuel filler door.
    5. Clean the plastic funnel, then store it inside your vehicle or dispose of it in accordance with regulations.

    Note: If you choose to dispose of the funnel, you can purchase additional funnels from an authorized dealer.
