Choosing the Correct Fuel

Qualité du carburant

We recommend using regular unleaded gasoline with a pump octane rating of 87.

Some filling stations sell fuel labeled as regular with an octane rating below 87, particularly at high altitudes. Fuels with an octane rating below 87 are not recommended. Premium unleaded gasoline provides better performance, and we recommend it when the vehicle is under heavy load (for example, when fully loaded).

Do not use any fuel that is not recommended. These fuels could cause engine damage that is not covered by the vehicle warranty.

Note: Using a fuel that is not recommended may damage the emissions control system and reduce vehicle performance.

Do not use:

  • Diesel fuel.
  • Fuels based on kerosene or paraffin.
  • Fuel containing more than 15% ethanol or E85 fuel.
  • Fuels containing methanol.
  • Fuels containing metallic additives, including manganese-based compounds.
  • Fuels containing methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT), an additive that increases the octane rating.
  • Leaded fuel (the use of leaded fuel is prohibited by law).

Using fuels containing metallic compounds such as methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (commonly known as MMT), which is a manganese-based additive, affects engine performance and the operation of the emissions control system.

It is normal for the engine to occasionally emit slight knocking noises. However, if loud knocking is audible in most driving conditions while you are using fuel with the recommended octane rating, contact an authorized dealer to avoid engine damage.
