Body Corrosion Protection

~1min read

There are two main groups of factors that commonly cause corrosion of vehicle components:

1. Accumulation of moisture in closed and poorly ventilated body cavities. Deposits of dirt and road salt mixtures used for winter road maintenance in gaps, holes and cavities on the underbody accelerate corrosion.

2. Damage to the body paint or anti-corrosion protective coating on the underbody and in the wheel wells.

Honda uses a variety of effective technologies and materials to protect your vehicle from corrosion. However, you can help ensure even more reliable protection against corrosion by following the simple recommendations below.

Repair chips and scratches in the body paint immediately.

Periodically check and, if necessary, clean the drain holes in the doors and underbody panels.

Regularly inspect the condition of the floor mats and floor sound insulation.

Carpets can retain moisture for a long time, especially in winter. Constant moisture under the floor mats will cause corrosion of the body floor panels.

Periodically wash the underbody and wheel wells of the vehicle with a strong stream of water. This is especially important if the vehicle is operated on roads where salt mixtures are used for winter maintenance.

Underbody washing is also useful for protecting the body when the vehicle is operated in humid climates or in coastal areas where the air is saturated with salt spray. When cleaning and washing the body, take care not to damage the anti-lock brake system wheel sensors and their wiring.

Periodically inspect the condition of the underbody anti-corrosion coating and, if necessary, restore its integrity.
