Using Booster Cushions

If the child no longer fits in the child restraint system, it is recommended to transport the child on a child booster cushion installed on the rear seat until the child is large enough to use the diagonal lap belt without an additional booster cushion.
There are two types of child booster cushions: with a high back or a low back. In any case, child booster cushions must comply with safety standards (page 53), and the manufacturer's instructions must be followed when installing them.
If the child will sit on a child booster cushion installed on the front seat, move this seat as far back as possible and properly fasten the child with the seat belt.
Use of an additional child booster cushion is permitted only as long as the child's height allows: as soon as the tops of the child's ears are above the top of the seat back, discontinue use of the additional child booster cushion.
Such a child may already use the diagonal lap belt without a child booster cushion.
For a list of child restraints recommended for use in European countries, refer to page 56.

Some child booster cushions are equipped with removable backrests. Install the backrest on the child booster cushion and connect it to the vehicle seat back, following the manufacturer's instructions. Be sure to route the shoulder belt through the guide loop on the backrest and make sure the seat belt does not touch the child's neck.
