Driver and Passenger Safety

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard

~1min read

Engine exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide. If the engine exhaust system is in good condition and the vehicle is operated properly, engine exhaust gases must not enter the passenger compartment.

Inspect the exhaust system components and the tightness of the exhaust pipe connections in the following cases:

• When the engine oil is changed at regular intervals, with the vehicle raised on a lift.

• When a noticeable change in the sound of the exhaust system is heard.

• After an accident that may have damaged components located under the vehicle body.

Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas. Inhaling carbon monoxide causes loss of consciousness and may result in death.

Avoid staying in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas or performing work that requires you to breathe air containing carbon monoxide.

In enclosed areas with poor ventilation, such as a garage, the concentration of carbon monoxide can increase rapidly.

Therefore, do not leave the engine running with the garage doors closed. Even with the doors open, do not let the engine run for a long period of time.

When driving with the rear liftgate open, engine exhaust gases may enter the vehicle interior and create a dangerous situation. If for any reason you must drive with the rear liftgate open, fully open all windows and turn on the heating and air conditioning system (see the recommendations below).

If you need to remain in a stationary vehicle with the engine running at idle, even in an open area, select the following heating and air conditioning/climate control system operating mode:

1. Turn on the fresh air intake mode.

2. Select the mode3. Включите вентилятор на максимальную подачу воздуха.

3. Turn the fan to maximum airflow.

4. Set the temperature control to a comfortable air temperature level.
