Driver Assistance System

Malfunction and Limitations of the Function

~5min read

Malfunction of the Function

When the Blind-Spot Safety system does not operate properly, the "Check Blind-Spot Safety System" warning message will appear in the cluster, and the system will turn off automatically or be limited. We recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

When the outside rearview mirror warning light does not operate properly, the "Check Side Rearview Mirror Warning Light" warning message will appear in the cluster. We recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Function Disabled

When the rear bumper corner radar or sensor is covered with foreign matter such as snow or rain, or when a trailer or carrier is installed, detection performance may decrease and the Blind-Spot Safety system may be temporarily limited or disabled.

In this case, the Blind-Spot Safety system(s) will be disabled. The "Radar Blocked" warning message will appear in the cluster.

The function will operate normally when such foreign matter or trailer, etc. is removed and the engine is restarted.

If the function does not operate normally after removing the foreign matter, we recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

  • Even if the warning message does not appear in the cluster, the Blind-Spot Safety system may malfunction.
  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate properly in certain areas (for example, locations) where any substance is not detected immediately after the engine is started, or when the sensor is blocked by foreign material immediately after the engine is started.

CAUTION

Turn off the Blind-Spot Collision Warning system when installing a trailer, luggage carrier, etc., or removing a trailer, carrier, etc., before using the Blind-Spot Collision Warning system.

System Limitations

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate normally, or the system may activate unexpectedly under the following conditions:

  • Inclement weather, such as heavy snow or heavy rain.
  • The rear corner radar is covered with snow, rain, dirt, etc.
  • The temperature around the rear corner radar is high or low.
  • Driving on a highway (or motorway) ramp.
  • The road surface (or surrounding ground) contains abnormal metallic components (for example, due to subway construction).
  • Stationary objects are located near the vehicle, such as sound barriers, guardrails, median dividers, entrance barriers, street lights, signs, tunnels, walls, etc. (including double structures).
  • Driving in large open areas where there are few vehicles or structures (for example, desert, meadow, suburbs, etc.).
  • Driving on a narrow road where trees or grass overgrow.
  • Driving on a wet road surface, such as a puddle on the road.
  • Another vehicle is following very closely behind your vehicle, or another vehicle passes very close to your vehicle.
  • Another vehicle is traveling very fast and passes your vehicle in a short time.
  • Your vehicle passes another vehicle.
  • Your vehicle changes lanes.
  • Your vehicle accelerates rapidly while a vehicle next to you starts at the same time.
  • A vehicle in the adjacent lane is two lanes away from you, or when a vehicle two lanes away moves into the next lane next to you.
  • A trailer or carrier is installed around the rear corner radar.
  • The bumper around the rear corner radar is covered by objects such as a bumper sticker, bumper guard, bicycle rack, etc.
  • The bumper around the rear corner radar is damaged, or the radar is out of position.
  • The height of your vehicle is lowered or raised due to heavy loads, incorrect tire pressure, etc.

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate normally, or the system may activate unexpectedly when the following objects are detected:

  • A motorcycle or bicycle is detected.
  • A vehicle such as a flatbed trailer is detected.
  • A large vehicle such as a bus or truck is detected.
  • A moving obstacle, such as a pedestrian, animal, shopping cart, or baby stroller is detected.
  • A low-height vehicle, such as a sports car, is detected.

Braking control may not operate. The driver must pay attention in the following situations:

  • The vehicle vibrates strongly while driving on a bumpy road, uneven road, or concrete section.
  • Driving on a slippery surface due to snow, puddles, ice, etc.
  • Tire pressure is low or a tire is damaged.
  • The brakes have been modified.
  • The vehicle makes a sharp lane change.

WARNING

• Driving on a curve

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate properly when driving on a curved road. The system may not detect a vehicle in the adjacent lane.

Always pay attention to the road and driving conditions while driving.

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate properly when driving on a curved road. The system may detect a vehicle in the same lane.

Always pay attention to the road and driving conditions while driving.

• Driving at a road merge/split point

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate properly when driving where the road merges or splits. The system may not detect a vehicle in the next lane.

Always pay attention to the road and driving conditions while driving.

• Driving on a slope

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate properly when driving on a slope. The system may not detect a vehicle in the adjacent lane, or it may misidentify the ground or composition.

Always pay attention to the road and driving conditions while driving.

• Driving where the road height is different

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate properly when driving where the road height differs. The system may not detect a vehicle on a road with a different height (such as the entrance section of an underpass, grade-separated intersections, etc.).

Always pay attention to the road and driving conditions while driving.

WARNING

  • When towing a trailer or another vehicle, make sure to turn off the Blind-Spot Collision Warning system.
  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate normally when subjected to strong electromagnetic wave interference.
  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate for 15 seconds after the vehicle is started, or after the front view camera or rear corner radars are initialized.
