ATF Warmer Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The ATF warmer is installed on the transmission to reduce viscous friction of the oil by raising its temperature when cold, which in turn improves fuel efficiency. It is installed in series at the inlet of the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) as shown in the diagram, and minimizes the effect on the heater system.
  • Engine coolant is used to circulate heat to warm up and cool the transmission fluid.
  • Quickly raises the temperature of the transmission fluid during initial cold engine start.
  • Prevents overheating of the transmission fluid during vehicle operation.
  • Warming and cooling of the transmission fluid can be performed by a single system.
  • Water coolant and oil are separated for heat exchange.
