Curtain Airbags

~1min read

Curtain airbags are located along both sides of the roof rails above the front and rear doors.

They are designed to protect the heads of front seat and outboard rear seat passengers in certain side collisions.

Curtain airbags are designed to deploy only on the impact side in certain side impact collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed and point of impact of the accident.

Curtain airbags deploy not only on the impact side, but also on the opposite side.

For vehicles equipped with a rollover sensor, the side airbags and side curtain airbags on both sides of the vehicle may deploy if a rollover is detected or possibly detected.

Curtain airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death resulting from curtain airbag deployment, observe the following precautions:

  • All passengers should always wear seat belts to help keep them properly positioned.
  • Install child restraints as far from the door as possible.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their heads or bodies against the door, place their hands on the door, extend their hands out of the window, or place objects between the doors and seats.
  • Do not open or repair the side curtain airbags.
