Your Vehicle's Safety System

Side Airbags

~2min read

Your vehicle is equipped with a side airbag in each front and outboard rear seat. The purpose of the airbag is to provide the driver and/or front and rear outboard passenger with additional protection beyond that offered by the seat belt alone.

The side airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side impact collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed and point of impact of the accident.

The side airbags deploy not only on the impact side, but also on the opposite side.

For vehicles equipped with a rollover sensor, the side airbags and side curtain airbags on both sides of the vehicle may deploy if a rollover is detected or possibly detected.

The side airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death resulting from side airbag deployment, observe the following precautions:

  • Always wear your seat belt to help keep occupants properly positioned.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the door, place their hands on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the doors and seats.
  • Hold the steering wheel at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions to minimize the risk of injury to your hands and arms.
  • Do not use any seat covers or accessories. They may reduce or prevent the effectiveness of the system.
  • Do not place any objects on the airbag cover or between the airbag and yourself.
  • Do not place any objects between the door and seat. They may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
  • Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbag.
  • Do not apply impact to the doors when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON position, or the side airbags may deploy.
  • If the seat or seat cover is damaged, have the vehicle inspected and repaired by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
