Description

The MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering, electric power steering with auxiliary steering column) system uses an electric motor to assist steering, and this motor operates as an independent steering system. The MDPS control module controls motor operation based on information received from each sensor and the CAN (Controller Area Network), which provides more precise and timely steering assist control than conventional engine-driven hydraulic systems. The components (torque sensor, fail-safe relay, etc.) of the MDPS system are located inside the steering column and MDPS unit assembly, and the steering column and MDPS unit assembly must not be disassembled for inspection or replacement.
