If an Emergency Occurs While Driving

If the Engine Stalls While Driving

  • Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully move from the road to a safe location.
  • Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
  • Try to restart the engine. If the vehicle does not start, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer or other qualified service assistance.

If the Engine Stalls at an Intersection or Crossing

If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, if it is safe, move the shift lever to N (Neutral) and then push the vehicle to a safe location.

If a Tire Goes Flat While Driving

If a tire goes flat while driving:

  • Release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while keeping it moving straight. Do not brake suddenly or attempt to leave the road, as this may cause loss of vehicle control and an accident. When the vehicle has slowed to a speed where it is safe, brake carefully and steer off the road. Move the vehicle as far off the road as possible and park on a firm, level surface. If you are on a divided highway, do not park in the median area between the two traffic lanes.
  • When the vehicle is stopped, press the hazard warning flasher button, move the shift lever to P (Park), apply the parking brake, and place the Start/Stop button in the OFF position.
  • Ask all passengers to exit the vehicle. Make sure they all exit on the side of the vehicle that is away from traffic.
  • When replacing a flat tire, follow the procedure described later in this chapter.
