1. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, make sure the shift lever is in N (Neutral) or P (Park) and the parking brake is set.

2. Check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight.

3. Turn on the interior light. If the light dims or goes out when you operate the starter, the battery is discharged.

4. Check the ignition connections to make sure they are tight.

5. Do not push or pull the vehicle to start it. See the instructions for "Jump Starting the Vehicle Using Another Battery".

WARNING If the engine does not start, do not push or pull the vehicle to start it. Collisions or other damage may occur. Furthermore, pushing or pulling the vehicle may overheat the catalytic converter and cause a fire hazard.
