STARTER Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The starting system includes the battery, starter, ignition switch, solenoid switch, ignition switch (A/T), clutch pedal switch (M/T), ignition interlock switch, connecting cables and battery cable. When the ignition key is turned to the START position, current flows and supplies power to the starter solenoid coil. When power is supplied, the solenoid plunger and shift lever engage, the pinion engages with the ring gear, the contacts close and the starter operates. The pinion disengages when the engine starts to prevent damage caused by excessive rotation of the starter armature. In combination with the ISG function, the starter operates more efficiently. Therefore, the starter is adapted for a larger number of start cycles. The starter components are designed for increased requirements.
