Vehicle Weight
Two labels on the driver's door pillar show the weight your vehicle can carry: the tire and loading information label and the certification label.
Before loading your vehicle, review the following terms to determine the weight rating of your vehicle based on the vehicle specifications and the vehicle certification label:
Base Curb Weight
This is the weight of the vehicle with a full fuel tank and all standard equipment. It does not include passengers, cargo, or optional equipment.
Vehicle Curb Weight
This is the weight of your new vehicle when you took delivery, including delivery to your dealer plus any aftermarket equipment.
Cargo Weight
This figure includes all masses in addition to the base curb mass, including cargo and optional equipment.
GAW (Gross Axle Weight)
This is the total weight on each axle (front and rear), including the curb mass of the vehicle and the total payload.
GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating)
This is the maximum permissible weight that an axle (front or rear) can support. These figures are shown on the certification label. The total load on each axle must never exceed its gross axle weight rating.
GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight)
This is the base curb mass plus the actual cargo mass plus passengers.
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)
This is the maximum permissible mass of the fully loaded vehicle (including all options, equipment, passengers, and cargo). The gross vehicle weight rating is shown on the certification label located on the driver's door pillar.
WARNING
The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of your vehicle are shown on the certification label attached to the driver's door pillar (or front passenger door pillar). Exceeding these weight limits may result in an accident or damage to the vehicle. You can calculate the weight of your load by weighing items (and people) before placing them in the vehicle. Be careful not to overload the vehicle.
