DEPOSIT

  1. Remove the timing chain cover. (Refer to Timing System - "Timing Chain Cover")
  2. Remove the oil level gauge guide. (Refer to Lubrication System - "Oil Level Gauge and Tube")
  3. Remove the oil pump cover (A), inner rotor (B), and outer rotor (C).

DISASSEMBLY

RELIEF VALVE
  1. Remove the cap (A), spring (B), and relief plunger (C).

Inspection

  1. Inspect the relief valve. Close the engine oil relief valve and make sure it drops smoothly into the valve hole under its own weight. If necessary, replace the timing chain cover.
  2. Inspect the rotor side clearance. Using a feeler gauge and a precision straightedge, measure the clearance between the inner rotors and the straightedge. If the side clearance exceeds the maximum limit, replace all rotors. If necessary, replace the timing chain cover.

    Side clearance: 0.040 ~ 0.090 mm (0.00157 ~ 0.00354 in.)

  3. Inspect the oil pump body width. Using a tape measure, measure the width of the oil pump body. If necessary, replace the timing chain cover.

Body width: 8.02~8.05 mm (0.3157~0.3169 in.)

  4. Inspect the inner rotor width. Measure the width of the inner rotor with a caliper. If necessary, replace the rotor.

Inner rotor width: 7.96~7.98 mm (0.3134~0.3142 in.)

Installation

RELIEF VALVE
  1. Install the relief plunger (A) and spring (B) into the hole of the oil pump cover, then install the plug (C).

Tightening torque: 39.2 ~ 49 N·m

REMEDY

  1. Install the oil pump.
    1. Place the outer rotor (A) and inner rotor (B) into the timing chain cover with the marking facing the oil pump cover.
    2. Install the oil pump cover (C) to the timing chain cover with the bolts.

    Tightening torque: 5.9–8.8 N·m

  2. Install the oil level gauge guide. (Refer to Lubrication System - "Oil Level Gauge and Tube")
  3. Install the timing chain cover. (Refer to Timing System - "Timing Chain Cover")
