If the Vehicle Does Not Start

Hybrid Vehicle

• Make sure the shift lever is in P (Park). The vehicle will start only when the shift lever is in P (Park).
• This vehicle does not have a conventional 12V battery that requires periodic replacement. It uses a lithium-ion polymer battery built into the high-voltage HEV battery. The vehicle has a 12V battery protection system that disconnects the 12V battery from the vehicle's power supply to prevent complete discharge. If the vehicle does not start, first try pressing the 12V battery reset switch (on the left side of the steering wheel, next to the fuel filler door opener) to reconnect the 12V battery. You must start the vehicle within 15 seconds of pressing the 12V battery reset switch. After starting the vehicle, drive it safely in the open air in Ready mode and/or keep it running for a total of 30 minutes to fully charge the 12V battery.

CAUTION

Push-starting or towing the vehicle may overload the catalytic converter, which may damage the emission control system.

• Check the fuel level and add fuel if necessary.

If the vehicle still does not start, have it inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle

• Make sure the shift lever is in P (Park). The engine will start only when the shift lever is in P (Park).
• Check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight.
• Turn on the interior light. If the light dims or goes out while the starter is operating, the battery is discharged.

Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine. This may damage your vehicle. See the "Jump Starting" instructions in this chapter.

If the engine still does not start, have your vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
