What to Do in an Emergency

If the 12V Battery Is Discharged (Hybrid Vehicle)

~2min read

Before Jump Starting

This vehicle does not have a conventional 12V battery that requires periodic replacement. It uses a lithium-ion polymer battery built into the high-voltage HEV battery. The vehicle has a 12V battery protection system that disconnects the 12V battery from the vehicle's power supply to prevent complete discharge.

Using the 12V Battery Reset Switch

Hyundai Ioniq. If the 12 Volt Battery is Discharged (Hybrid Vehicle)

1. Press the 12V battery reset switch to reconnect the 12V battery.

2. Start the vehicle within 15 seconds of pressing the 12V battery reset switch.

3. After the vehicle starts (Hyundai Ioniq. If the 12 Volt Battery is Discharged (Hybrid Vehicle)indicator on), drive the vehicle safely in the open air in Ready mode and/or keep it running for a total of 30 minutes to fully charge the 12V battery. If you do not start the vehicle immediately after pressing the 12V battery reset switch, the 12V battery power automatically disconnects after a few seconds to protect the 12V battery from further discharge. If the 12V battery was disconnected before starting the engine, press the 12V battery reset switch again, then start the vehicle immediately as described.

Repeatedly using the 12V battery reset switch without running the vehicle long enough (30 min+) may over-discharge the 12V battery and prevent the vehicle from starting. If the 12V battery is discharged to the point that the reset does not work, try starting the vehicle from an external power source.

Information

After the vehicle starts (Hyundai Ioniq. If the 12 Volt Battery is Discharged (Hybrid Vehicle) indicator on), the 12V battery charges regardless of whether the engine is running. Although no engine sound is heard, do not press the accelerator pedal.

After the battery has discharged or been disconnected, the following items may need to be reset. Refer to chapter 3 or 4 for:

  • Power Windows
  • Trip Computer
  • Climate Control System
  • Clock
  • Audio System
  • Sunroof
  • Driver's Position Memory System

NOTICE

External Power Source Using the 12V Battery

Using external power accessories may reduce the performance and functionality of the vehicle. In particular, using a dash cam may cut power to the vehicle until the dash cam automatically shuts off.

If the vehicle power is cut off, start it as described. (Refer to "Using the 12V Battery Reset Switch")
