MFC Functions
The Multi-Function Camera (MFC) supports the following functions using information (lane, light source, vehicle and pedestrian) detected by the front camera and vehicle signal information (CAN communication).- Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): If it is determined that the vehicle is departing from its lane while driving, the driver is warned of the danger and steering is controlled to prevent an accident. LKA provides a visual/audible/tactile warning to the driver if it is determined that the vehicle is departing from the lane, based on lane information and road boundaries recognized by the MFC, and whether the turn signal lamp is operating. However, the MFC may not operate normally in extreme situations where lane and road boundaries cannot be recognized.
- High Beam Assist (HBA): High Beam Assist (HBA) controls the operation of the high beams to maximize forward visibility while minimizing glare to other drivers at night and in low light conditions. The system uses the front camera to detect whether there is any light source from the front, an oncoming vehicle, or street lighting. The system turns the high beams off if a light source is detected, and turns them on if no light source is detected. However, when the front camera cannot detect the surrounding situation, the system may malfunction.
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW): Forward Collision Warning (FCW) warns the driver and controls the vehicle brakes/steering to avoid a frontal collision with an obstacle while driving. To allow the system to operate, the MFC transmits information about the detected preceding vehicle and pedestrian to the radar via CAN communication.
System Operation
The MFC functional requirements are as follows:- Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
- It operates when the LKA function is set and the vehicle speed is above 60 km/h. (LKA function setting: LKA on, USM LKA mode)
- The lines must be clearly separated and both lanes must be detected.
- The driver's hands must be on the steering wheel; the function is cancelled if steering effort is ignored when the LKA function is activated.
- LKA will operate if a lane change is made arbitrarily while the turn signal lamp and hazard warning switch are OFF.
- LKA operates when the lane width is 2.8 m or more and 4.3 m or less.
- If the vehicle crosses more than 40% of the vehicle's road width, the lane is considered to be departing for a lane change and the LKA function is cancelled.
- In the following cases, LKA may not operate.
- When driving through a sharp curve
- Sudden braking or sudden lane change
- When the ESC/VSM function is operating
- Smart High Beam Assist (HBA)
- If the lighting switch is pushed toward the instrument panel, the high beams are on and HBA is off.
- Activates when vehicle speed is above 45 km/h.
- The operation details depending on the lighting switch position while the Smart High Beam Assist (HBA) system is operating are as follows:
- If the lighting switch is pushed toward the instrument panel, the high beams are on and HBA is off.
- If the lighting switch is pulled up while the high beam is on, the high beam turns off and HBA remains on. (When released, the switch returns to the center and the high beam turns off.)
- When the lighting switch is pushed with the high beam on and HBA on, the high beam turns off and the system is released.
- If the lighting switch is moved from AUTO to the headlamp position, the high beam turns off and the system is released.
- When HBA is operating with the high beam on, the high beam is automatically switched off if:
- A headlamp or taillamp of an approaching vehicle is detected
- A headlamp or taillamp of an approaching vehicle is detected
- Headlamps or taillamps of bicycles and motorcycles are detected
- The surroundings are bright enough that headlamps are not required
- A street lamp or other light source is ahead
- The lighting switch is not in the AUTO (automatic lighting) position.
- HBA is off
- Vehicle speed decreases to 35 km/h or less
- Even if the HBA operating conditions are satisfied, it does not operate in a week time zone.
- Recognizes the light source of a vehicle ahead in normal night environment and automatically turns the high beam on or off.
