Inspection

Check whether the automatic light control operates as shown in the timing chart below. Tail lamp power and headlamp (low) power are controlled based on the automatic light sensor input (light intensity) when the automatic light switch is in the multi-function switch AUTO position, the vehicle is in IGN1 or IGN2 ON mode. If IGN1 is ON, the BCM detects this voltage, and if the voltage exceeds the rated range, the automatic light function is automatically disabled. (Below 4 V or above 6 V)

  • Malfunction occurrence: If an automatic light malfunction occurs, the headlamps must be turned on regardless of the sunlight level. This is to prevent the headlamps from turning off in the event of an automatic light failure at night.
In the IGN1 ON state, when the multi-function switch module detects the automatic light ON, the tail lamp relay output and the headlamp low beam relay output are controlled according to the input signal of the automatic light sensor. Automatic light control does not operate if the sunlight sensor power contact (regulated 5 V power from Ignition 1 to the sunlight sensor) is shorted to ground. If IGN1 is ON, the BCM monitors the range of this power supply and triggers a malfunction as soon as the voltage is out of range. This malfunction then occurs, and while it is present, the headlamps must be turned on regardless of the sunlight level detected by the sensor. This is to prevent the headlamps from being turned off if a failure occurs at night.
