Front Windshield Wipers
Operates as follows when the ignition switch is in the ON position.
MIST: For a single wiping cycle, pull the lever up and release it. The wipers will operate continuously while the lever is held in this position.
OFF: The wiper does not operate.
INT: The wiper operates intermittently at the same cleaning intervals. To change the speed, move the speed control lever. Most settings will run the wipers most frequently (for heavier rain). The lowest setting will run the wipers least frequently (for lighter rain).
AUTO: The rain sensor, located on the upper edge of the windshield, detects the amount of precipitation and controls the wiping cycle at the appropriate interval. The heavier the rain, the faster the wipers operate. When the rain stops, the wipers stop. To change the speed, turn the speed control knob (B).
LO: The wiper operates at low speed.
HI: The wiper operates at high speed.
Information
If there is heavy snow or ice on the windshield, defrost the windshield for approximately 10 minutes or until the snow and/or ice is removed before using the wipers to ensure proper operation.
If you do not remove snow and/or ice before using the wiper and washer, the wiper and washer system may be damaged.
AUTO (Automatic) Operation
The rain sensor, located on the upper end of the windshield, detects the amount of precipitation and controls the wiping cycle for the proper interval.
The wiper operating time is automatically controlled depending on the amount of precipitation.
When the rain stops, the wipers stop.
To change the sensitivity setting, turn the sensitivity adjustment knob (1).
If the wiper switch is set to the AUTO position when the ignition key is in the ON position, the wiper will operate once to perform a system self-check. Set the wiper switch to the OFF position when the wipers are not in use.
WARNING
To avoid injury from the windshield wipers when the engine is running and the wiper switch is in AUTO mode:
- Do not touch the upper edge of the windshield rain sensor cover.
- Do not wipe the upper end of the windshield with a wet or damp cloth.
- Do not apply pressure to the windshield.
NOTICE
- When washing the vehicle, set the wiper switch to the OFF position to stop automatic wiper operation. The wipers may operate and be damaged if the switch is set to AUTO while washing the vehicle.
- Do not remove the rain sensor cover located on the upper end of the windshield on the passenger side. Damage to system components may occur and may not be covered by your vehicle warranty.
- Due to the use of a photo sensor, a temporary malfunction may occur as a result of sudden changes in ambient light, stones, and dust during driving.
