To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, observe the following precautions:
- ALWAYS wear your seat belt. All occupants must wear seat belts correctly while the vehicle is moving. For more information, refer to "Seat Belts" in chapter 2.
- Always drive carefully. Assume that other drivers and pedestrians may be reckless or make mistakes.
- Concentrate on driving. Any driver distraction can lead to accidents.
- Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one ahead of you.
WARNING
NEVER drink alcohol or use drugs while driving.
Drinking alcohol or using drugs before driving is a practice that can lead to accidents and SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
Driving under the influence is a leading cause of road deaths each year. Even a small amount of alcohol can weaken your reflexes, perception and judgment. One drink can reduce your ability to react to changing conditions and emergencies, and your reaction time increases with each additional drink.
Driving under the influence of drugs is just as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than driving under the influence of alcohol.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs dramatically increases the risk of a serious accident. If you drink alcohol or use drugs, do not drive. Do not ride in a vehicle with a driver who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Designate a driver in advance or call a taxi.
