Tow/Haul
If you plan to tow a trailer with your vehicle, check the local regulations in advance. Regulations vary depending on what you want to tow (trailer, another vehicle, or other types of vehicles or equipment). Before towing, consult a HYUNDAI dealer for more detailed information.
Keep in mind that towing is a completely different driving practice than driving the vehicle alone. It affects handling, durability, and fuel consumption.
To tow safely, you must have the necessary equipment and use it correctly. Any damage to the vehicle caused by improper towing methods is not covered by the vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
This section contains many important safety tips and rules. Many of them are important for your safety and the safety of your passengers. Read this section carefully before towing a trailer.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions:
- If equipment is used incorrectly and/or the trailer is handled improperly, you risk losing control of the vehicle. For example, if the trailer is too heavy, braking efficiency may be reduced. You and your passengers may suffer serious injury, or even death. Before towing, perform all actions described in this section.
- Before towing a trailer, make sure the total trailer weight, GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating), GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight), GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) and tongue load are within permissible values and legal regulations.
Information - For Europe
- The technically permissible maximum rear axle load may be exceeded by no more than 15%, and the technically permissible maximum laden vehicle mass may be exceeded by no more than 10% or 100 kg (220.4 lb), whichever is lower. In this case, do not exceed a speed of 100 km/h for M1 category vehicles or 80 km/h for N1 category vehicles.
- If you tow a trailer with an M1 category vehicle, the additional load on the hitch may cause the maximum load capacity of the rear tires to be exceeded, by no more than 15% in any case. In this case, do not exceed a speed of 100 km/h and increase the tire pressure by at least 0.2 bar.
