Driving Your Vehicle

Vehicle Weight

~1min read

Two labels attached to the driver's door pillar provide information about the weight your vehicle can carry: the tire and loading information label and the certification label.

Before loading your vehicle, observe the following weight limits (vehicle specifications and certification label):

Curb Weight

The weight of the vehicle with a full fuel tank and all standard equipment. Does not include passengers, cargo, or optional equipment.

Vehicle Curb Weight

The weight of a new vehicle when leaving the dealership with all optional equipment.

Cargo Weight

Includes all additions to the curb weight, including cargo and optional equipment.

GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating)

The total weight carried by each axle (front and rear), including the curb weight of the vehicle and the payload.

GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating)

The maximum permissible load that one axle (front or rear) can carry. These values are indicated on the certification label.

The total load on each axle must never exceed its GAWR.

GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight)

Curb weight plus the actual weight of cargo and passengers.

GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)

The maximum permissible weight of the fully loaded vehicle (including all equipment, options, passengers, and cargo). The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is indicated on the certification label attached to the driver's door pillar.

WARNING

Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of your vehicle are indicated on the certification label attached to the driver's (or front passenger's) door pillar.

Exceeding these limits may result in an accident or damage to the vehicle. You can calculate the weight of your cargo by weighing each item (and each person) before loading it into the vehicle. Be careful not to overload the vehicle.
