The liftgate can be opened remotely if the following conditions are met.

  • 15 seconds have passed since all doors were closed and locked.
  • You stand within the detection zone for more than 3 seconds.

Information

• The Smart Liftgate does not operate in the following cases:

- The Smart Key is detected within 15 seconds after all doors are closed and locked.
- The Smart Key is detected within 15 seconds after all doors are closed and locked, within 1.5 m (60 in.) of the front door handle (on vehicles equipped with Welcome Lighting).
- The liftgate is not locked or closed.
- The Smart Key is inside the vehicle.

1. Setting

To activate the Smart Liftgate, enter User Settings mode and select Smart Tailgate on the LCD screen.

2. Detection and Warning

If you are within the detection zone (50–100 cm (20–40 in.) behind the vehicle) with the Smart Key, the hazard warning lights flash and the alarm sounds. The lights turn off for approximately 3 seconds to indicate that the key has been detected and the liftgate will open.

Information

Do not approach the detection zone if you do not want to open the liftgate. If you unintentionally enter the detection zone and the hazard warning lights and alarm activate, leave the area with the key. The liftgate will remain closed.

3. Automatic Opening

The hazard warning lights flash and the alarm sounds twice, then the liftgate opens slowly.

WARNING

  • Always make sure the liftgate is closed before driving.
  • Make sure there are no people or objects around the liftgate before opening or closing it.
  • If you are parked on a slope, make sure no items can slide out of the luggage compartment when you open the liftgate. You may be seriously injured.
  • Be sure to turn off the Smart Liftgate function when washing your vehicle. Otherwise, the liftgate may open accidentally.
  • Keep the key out of the reach of children. They could open the Smart Liftgate while playing near the detection zone.
