Seatback Reclining
Sitting on a reclined seat can be dangerous when the vehicle is in motion. Even if your seat belt is fastened, reclining the seatback significantly reduces the protection provided by the restraint system (seat belt and airbags).
WARNING
NEVER sit in a reclined seat while the vehicle is moving. This practice increases the risk of serious or fatal injury in a collision or sudden braking. The driver and passengers must ALWAYS sit properly and wear their seat belts, with the seatback in the upright position.
To be effective, the seat belts must be adjusted over the hips and chest. When the seatback is reclined, the shoulder belt cannot be effective because it does not lie across the chest. It will be positioned in front of you. In a collision, you may slide under the belt and injure your neck or other parts of the body.
The more the seatback is reclined, the greater the risk that the occupant's hips will slide forward under the lap belt, and that the neck will contact the shoulder belt.
