Actions to take in an emergency

Jump Starting Procedure

~2min read

1. Position the two vehicles close enough (without touching each other) so that the jumper cables can connect them.

2. Keep clear of fans and moving parts in the engine compartment, even when the engines are off.

3. Turn off all electrical systems, such as the radio, lights, air conditioner, etc. Place the shift lever of the vehicle in P (automatic transaxle) or in Neutral (manual transaxle) and set the parking brake. Stop the engines of both vehicles.

4. Connect the jumper cables carefully, following the order shown in the illustration. Start by connecting one end of the cable to the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's battery (1).

5. Connect the other end of the cable to the positive (+) terminal of the booster vehicle's battery (2).

6. Connect the second cable to the negative (-) terminal of the booster vehicle's battery (3).

7. Connect the other end of the cable to the negative (-) terminal of your vehicle's battery (4).

The cables must contact only the battery terminals or the corresponding connections or ground. Do not lean over the battery when making connections.

8. Start the engine of the booster vehicle and let it run at approximately 2000 rpm for several minutes. Then start your vehicle.

If your vehicle does not start after several attempts, there may be a more serious problem. In this case, call a qualified service technician. If you cannot find a visible cause of battery discharge, we recommend having the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Disconnect the jumper cables by repeating the above procedure in reverse order:

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) terminal of your vehicle's battery (4).

2. Disconnect the other end of the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the booster vehicle's battery (3).

3. Disconnect the second cable from the positive (+) terminal of the booster vehicle's battery (2).

4. Disconnect the other end of the cable from the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's battery (1).
