Side Airbags

Your vehicle is equipped with a side airbag for each front seat. The side airbags are designed to provide the driver and front passenger with additional protection beyond that provided by the seat belt alone.

The side airbags are designed to deploy during certain side impacts, depending on the severity of the crash.

The side airbags on both sides of the vehicle are designed to deploy when a rollover is detected by the rollover sensor.

(if equipped with a rollover sensor) The side airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death from an inflating side airbag and front center airbag, observe the following precautions:

• Seat belts must always be worn to help occupants maintain the correct position.
• Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the door, place their hands on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the door and the seat.
• Hold the steering wheel at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions to minimize the risk of injury to the hands and arms.
• Do not use seat covers that are not approved for use with side airbags. They may reduce or prevent the effectiveness of the system.
• Do not hang any objects other than clothing. In a crash, this may cause damage to the vehicle or injury, especially when the airbag is inflated.
• Do not place any objects on or between the side airbag and yourself. Also, do not attach objects around the side airbag's deployment area, such as the door, side window glass, front pillar, or rear pillar.
• Do not place any objects between the door and the seat. They may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
• Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbags.
• Do not strike the doors when the ignition switch is in the ON or START position, as this may cause the side airbags to deploy.
• If the seat or seat cover is damaged, have the system serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
