Curtain Airbags

~1min read

Side curtain airbags are located on both sides of the roof side rails above the front and rear doors.

They are designed to protect the heads of front and rear side outboard passengers in certain side impacts.

The curtain airbags are designed to deploy in certain side collisions, depending on the severity of the impact, angle, speed, and point of impact.

For vehicles equipped with a rollover sensor, the side airbags and/or curtain airbags and pretensioners on both sides of the vehicle may deploy in the event of a rollover or a possible rollover being detected.

Side curtain airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impacts or rollover situations.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death from an inflating curtain airbag, observe the following precautions:

  • All occupants must always wear seat belts to ensure they are positioned properly.
  • Properly secure the child restraint system as far from the door as possible.
  • Do not place any objects on the airbag. Also, do not attach objects around the airbag deployment area, such as the door, side door glass, front and rear pillars, or roof side rails.
  • Do not hang objects other than clothing, especially hard or breakable objects, from the hooks. In an accident, this may cause damage to the vehicle or injury.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the doors, rest their arms on the doors, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the doors and seats.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the curtain airbags yourself. If necessary, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to inspect the airbag system.
