The rain sensor, located at the top of the windshield, detects the amount of rain and controls the wiping cycle at appropriate intervals.
The heavier the rain, the faster the wipers operate. When the rain stops, the wipers stop. To change the speed setting, turn the speed control knob (1). If the wiper switch is set to AUTO when the ignition switch is in the ON position, the wipers will operate once to perform a system self-check. Set the wiper switch to OFF when the wipers are not in use.
WARNING
To avoid injury from the windshield wipers when the engine is running and the wiper switch is in AUTO:
- Do not touch the upper edge of the windshield facing the rain sensor.
- Do not wipe the upper edge of the windshield with a wet or damp cloth.
- Do not press on the windshield.
CAUTION
- When washing the vehicle, set the wiper switch to OFF to stop automatic wiper operation. The wipers may operate and be damaged if the switch is set to AUTO during vehicle washing.
- Do not remove the sensor cover located on the upper end of the passenger side windshield. Damage to system components may result.
