Driving Your Vehicle

If you decide to tow a trailer

~1min read
  • Consider using a sway control device. You can ask your trailer hitch dealer about sway control.
  • Hyundai recommends that you do not tow with your vehicle for the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km) to allow the engine to break in properly.
  • Do not exceed 65 mph (104 km/h) or the posted towing speed limit, whichever is lower, when towing a trailer. Note that towing speed limits vary by state. Always observe the posted towing speed limit.
  • Trailer sway is most likely to occur when driving down steep or long grades. Pay special attention and reduce vehicle speed when descending long grades. Allow more time and distance for braking and do not brake suddenly. Downshift to a lower gear to reduce vehicle speed and help prevent brakes from overheating.
  • Carefully observe the weight and load limits specified on the following pages.

Towing Capacity

Your vehicle can tow a trailer if you carefully observe towing capacity limits, use proper equipment, and follow towing instructions. Check the load limits before driving.

Total trailer weight

Do not exceed the maximum allowable trailer weight, cargo weight, and everything in or on the vehicle. See the table on the following page for maximum allowable trailer weight.

WARNING

Exceeding the load limit or improperly loading the vehicle and trailer may result in a collision causing serious injury or death.

Be sure to check the load of your vehicle and trailer carefully before driving.
