What to Do in an Emergency

Low Tire Pressure Warning Light

~2min read

The TPMS does not replace manual tire pressure checks with a pressure gauge. Temperature changes affect tire pressure. Refer to Tires and Wheels in Section 7 for correct tire inflation and tire pressure measurement procedures.

Reduce speed immediately, avoid sharp turns, and expect longer braking distances. Stop and check your tires as soon as possible. Inflate the tires to the proper pressure specified on the vehicle certification label or tire pressure label located on the driver's side door pillar. If you cannot reach a service station, or if the tire cannot hold the added air, replace the low-pressure tire with the compact spare tire.

The low tire pressure warning light will remain on, and the TPMS malfunction indicator may flash for one minute and then remain on if the vehicle is driven for approximately 20 minutes at speeds above 25 km/h.

✽ NOTICE

The compact spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure monitoring sensor.

CAUTION

In winter or in cold weather, the low tire pressure warning light may illuminate if the tire pressure was adjusted to the recommended tire pressure in warm weather. This does not mean that your TPMS is malfunctioning, because a drop in temperature causes a proportional drop in tire pressure. When you drive your vehicle from a warm region to a cold region, or from a cold region to a warm region, or when the outside temperature changes significantly, check the tire pressure and adjust the tires to the recommended tire pressure.

WARNING

  • Significantly low tire pressure makes the vehicle unstable and may lead to loss of vehicle control and increased braking distance.
  • Continued driving on a low-pressure tire may cause the tire to overheat and fail.
