Driving Your Vehicle

Starting the Engine

~2min read

WARNING

  • Always wear suitable footwear when driving your vehicle. Unsuitable footwear, such as high heels, ski boots, sandals or flip-flops, may interfere with your ability to operate the brake, accelerator and clutch pedals. Do not drive barefoot.
  • Do not start the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed. Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal when starting the vehicle.
  • Wait until the engine reaches normal idle speed before shifting gears and releasing the brake. Your vehicle may move suddenly if it is shifted at high engine speed. This may cause damage to the transmission system.

Information

  • The vehicle can be started by pressing the Push Button Ignition Switch only when the Smart Key is inside the vehicle.
  • The vehicle may not start even if the Smart Key is inside the vehicle but not near you (for example, in the luggage compartment).
  • When the Push Button Ignition Switch is in the ACC or ON position, if any door is opened, the system checks for the Smart Key. When the Smart Key is not in the vehicle, the indicator flashes and a warning message "Key Not in Vehicle" appears. When all doors are closed, a chime also sounds for about 5 seconds.

1. Always carry the Smart Key with you.

2. Make sure the parking brake is applied.

3. Make sure the shift lever/button is in P (Park).

4. Depress the brake pedal.

5. Press the Push Button Ignition Switch.

Information

  • Do not wait for the engine to warm up or start the engine while the vehicle is stationary.
  • Start moving at a moderate engine speed. Do not accelerate rapidly or decelerate while driving.

NOTICE

To avoid damage to the vehicle:

  • Do not press the START/STOP button for more than 10 seconds, except when the STOP lamp fuse is blown. When the STOP lamp fuse is blown, replace the fuse. If you cannot replace the fuse, start the engine by pressing and holding the START/STOP button for 10 seconds with the ignition switch in the ACC position.
  • If the engine stalls while the vehicle is moving, shift to N (Neutral) and use the START/STOP button to try to restart the engine.
  • Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine.

Information

If the Smart Key battery is discharged or the Smart Key does not operate properly, press the START/STOP button with the Smart Key.
