Tire Chains

Because the sidewalls of radial tires are thinner than those of other tire types, they may be damaged when some types of tire chains are installed on them. Therefore, it is recommended to use winter tires instead of tire chains. If tire chains must be used, use only genuine HYUNDAI parts and install the tire chains after checking the instructions supplied with the tire chains. Damage to your vehicle caused by improper use of tire chains is not covered by your vehicle manufacturer's warranty.

When installing tire chains, attach them to the front wheels.
WARNING
The use of tire chains may adversely affect vehicle handling:
- Drive at a speed less than 20 mph (30 km/h) or the tire chain manufacturer's recommended speed limit, whichever is lower.
- Drive carefully and avoid bumps, potholes, sharp turns and other road hazards that could cause the vehicle to jump.
- Avoid sudden turns or locked-wheel braking.
- Install tire chains only in pairs and on the front tires. Installing tire chains on the tires provides greater steering effort, but does not prevent side skidding.
Information
Do not install studded tires without first checking local and municipal regulations for possible restrictions on their use.
Chain Installation
When installing tire chains, follow the manufacturer's instructions and tighten them as firmly as possible. Drive slowly (less than 30 km/h or the speed limit recommended by the chain manufacturer) with the chains installed. If you hear the chains contacting the body or chassis, stop and retighten them. If they still make contact, reduce speed until the noise stops. Remove the tire chains as soon as you drive on cleared roads.
When installing tire chains, park the vehicle on level ground away from traffic. Turn on the hazard warning flasher and place the triangular warning device behind the vehicle (if available). Always place the vehicle in P (Park), apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine before installing snow chains.
NOTICE
When using tire chains:
- Chains of the wrong size or improperly installed chains may damage the vehicle's brake lines, suspension, body and wheels.
- Use SAE class "S" or wire chains.
- If you hear chains contacting the body, retighten the chains to prevent contact with the vehicle body.
- To avoid body damage, retighten the chains after driving 0.3-0.6 miles (0.5-1.0 km).
- Do not use tire chains on vehicles equipped with aluminum wheels. If unavoidable, use wire chains.
- Use wire chains less than 0.47 in. (12 mm) to prevent damage to the chain links.
