Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) helps maintain vehicle stability during sudden acceleration or braking on wet, slippery, or uneven roads, when traction at the four tires may suddenly become uneven.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions when using the Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system:
- ALWAYS check your speed and the distance to the vehicle ahead. VSM does not replace safe driving practices.
- Never drive too fast for road conditions. The VSM system will not prevent accidents. Excessive speed in bad weather or on slippery or uneven roads may result in serious accidents.
VSM Operation
VSM Operating Status
VSM operates when:
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is turned on.
- Vehicle speed above approximately 9 mph (15 km/h) on curved roads.
- Vehicle speed above approximately 18 mph (30 km/h) when braking on uneven roads.
During Operation
When you depress the brake pedal under conditions that may activate ESC, you may hear a brake noise or feel a corresponding pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and indicates that your VSM is active.
✽ NOTICE
VSM does not operate when:
- Driving in reverse.
- The ESC OFF indicator is on.
- EPS (Electronic Power Steering) warning light (
) is on.
VSM OFF Mode
To cancel VSM operation, press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF indicator (
) will illuminate.
To turn VSM on again, press the ESC OFF button again. The ESC OFF indicator will turn off.
WARNING
If the ESC indicator light (
) or the EPS warning light (
) stays on, your vehicle may have a malfunction in the VSM system. When the warning light comes on, have your vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
CAUTION
Driving the vehicle with tires or wheels of a different size may cause the ESC system to malfunction. When replacing tires, make sure they are the same size as the original tires for this vehicle.
