To ensure proper engine lubrication, the engine oil must be maintained at the correct level. Check the oil level regularly, such as at every refueling. The best time to check the engine oil level is approximately five minutes after the fully warmed-up engine has been shut off.
Checking the oil on level ground will improve the accuracy of the oil level reading.
There are four possible types of dipsticks:
- Shaded area.
- The shaded area is marked SAFE.
- The crosshatched area is marked MIN at the lower limit of the range and MAX at the upper end of the range.
- The crosshatched area is marked with dimples at the MIN and MAX ends of the range.
NOTE:
Always maintain the oil level within the crosshatch marking on the dipstick.
When the reading is at the bottom of the dipstick range, add 1 quart (1 liter) of oil to raise the level to the upper edge of the range marking.
