Maintenance-Free Battery
In this manual: SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
~2min read
Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free battery. You will never need to add water, and periodic maintenance is not necessary.
- Battery electrolyte is a corrosive acid solution. It can burn or even blind you. Do not allow battery fluid to contact your eyes, skin, or clothing. Do not lean over the battery when tightening clamps. If acid contacts your eyes or skin, immediately flush the affected area with large amounts of water.
- Battery gas is flammable and explosive. Keep flames or sparks away from the battery. Do not use a booster battery or any other booster source with an output greater than 12 volts. Do not allow the cable clamps to touch each other.
- Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. Wash your hands after handling.
- Vehicles equipped with the Stop/Start system have two batteries. Both the main and auxiliary batteries must be disconnected to completely de-energize the 12-volt electrical system.
- Do not disconnect both batteries. Doing so may result in serious injury or death. Refer to an authorized dealer for the correct disconnection procedure.
- It is important when replacing battery cables that the positive cable is attached to the positive post and the negative cable is attached to the negative post. The battery posts are marked positive (+) and negative (-) and are indicated on the battery case. Cable clamps must be secure on the terminals and free of corrosion.
- If a quick charger is used to charge the battery while it is in the vehicle, disconnect both vehicle battery cables before connecting the charger to the battery. Do not use a quick charger to provide starting voltage.
- Vehicles equipped with the Stop/Start system have two batteries. Both the main and auxiliary batteries must be disconnected to completely de-energize the 12-volt electrical system.
- If the negative battery cables are not properly isolated, this may cause a potential surge or voltage spike in the system, resulting in damage to major electrical components.
