Advanced Seat Belt Reminder System (BeltAlert)
Driver And Passenger BeltAlert System — If Equipped
BeltAlert is a feature designed to remind the driver and the front outboard passenger (if equipped with the BeltAlert front passenger seat-mounted sensor) to fasten their seat belts. The BeltAlert feature is active whenever the ignition switch is in the START or ON/RUN position.
Initial Indication
If the driver is not buckled when the ignition switch is first placed in the START or ON/RUN position, a chime will sound for several seconds. If the driver or the front outboard passenger (if equipped with the BeltAlert front passenger seat-mounted sensor) unbuckles when the ignition switch is first in the START or ON/RUN position, the Seat Belt Reminder light will illuminate and remain on until both front seat belts are fastened. The BeltAlert front outboard passenger seat is not active when the front outboard passenger seat is not occupied.
BeltAlert Warning Sequence
The BeltAlert warning sequence is activated when the vehicle is driven above a set vehicle speed range and the driver or the front outboard passenger (if equipped with the BeltAlert front passenger seat-mounted sensor) is unbuckled (the front outboard passenger BeltAlert seat is not active when the front outboard passenger seat is not occupied). The BeltAlert warning sequence begins with a flashing Seat Belt Reminder light and an intermittent chime. Once the BeltAlert warning sequence is completed, the Seat Belt Reminder light will remain on until the seat belts are fastened. The BeltAlert warning sequence may repeat depending on vehicle speed while the driver and occupied front outboard passenger seat belts remain unfastened. The driver should instruct all passengers to fasten their seat belts.
Changing the Status
If the driver or the front outboard passenger (if equipped with the BeltAlert front passenger seat-mounted sensor) unbuckles the seat belt while the vehicle is moving, the BeltAlert warning sequence will begin until the seat belts are fastened again.
The BeltAlert front outboard passenger seat is not active when the front outboard passenger seat is not occupied. BeltAlert may activate when an animal or other objects are placed on the front outboard passenger seat or when the seat is folded (if equipped). It is recommended that pets be secured in the rear seat (if equipped) using pet harnesses or carriers that are secured with seat belts, and that cargo be loaded properly.
BeltAlert can be activated or deactivated by an authorized dealer. FCA US LLC does not recommend deactivating BeltAlert.
NOTE:
If BeltAlert is deactivated and the driver or the front outboard passenger (if equipped with the BeltAlert front passenger seat-mounted sensor) is unbuckled, the Seat Belt Reminder light will illuminate and remain on until the driver and front outboard passenger seat belts are fastened.
Lap/Shoulder Belts
All seating positions in your vehicle are equipped with lap/shoulder seat belts.
The seat belt pretensioner will lock only during very sudden stops or collisions. This feature allows the shoulder portion of the seat belt to move freely with you under normal conditions. However, in a collision, the seat belt will lock and reduce the risk of striking the inside of the vehicle or being ejected from the vehicle.
- Relying on airbags alone may result in more serious injury in a collision. Airbags work with your seat belt to hold you properly. In some collisions, the airbags will not deploy at all. Always wear your seat belt, even if you have airbags.
- In a collision, you and your passengers can receive much greater injuries if you are not properly restrained. You can strike the interior of your vehicle or other passengers, or you may be thrown from the vehicle. Always make sure that you and others in your vehicle are properly restrained.
- Riding in the cargo area, inside or outside the vehicle, is dangerous. In a collision, people riding in these areas are more likely to be seriously injured or killed.
- Do not allow people to ride in any area of your vehicle that is not equipped with seats and seat belts.
- Make sure everyone in your vehicle is seated and properly using the seat belt. Passengers, including the driver, should always wear their seat belts, regardless of whether an airbag is provided at their seating position, to minimize the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash.
- Improper seat belt use can make your injuries in a collision much worse. You may receive internal injuries or may even slide out of the seat belt. Follow these instructions to wear your seat belt correctly and keep your passengers safe as well.
- Two people should never be belted with a single seat belt. People belted together can strike each other in a collision, causing serious injury to each other. Never use a lap/shoulder belt or lap belt for more than one person, regardless of their size.
- A lap belt worn too high can increase the risk of injury in a collision. The seat belt forces will not be on the strong hip and pelvic bones, but across the abdomen. Always position the lap portion of the seat belt as low as possible on the hips and keep it snug.
- A twisted seat belt may not protect you properly. In a collision, it can even cut into you. Make sure the seat belt lies flat against your body, without twists. If you cannot straighten the seat belt in your vehicle, have it inspected and corrected immediately by an authorized dealer.
- A seat belt buckled to the wrong buckle will not protect you properly. The lap portion may ride up too high on your body, possibly causing internal injury. Always buckle the seat belt to the buckle nearest to you.
- A seat belt that is too loose will not protect you properly. In a sudden stop, you may move too far forward, increasing the risk of injury. Keep the seat belt snug.
- A seat belt worn under the arm is dangerous. Your body may strike the interior of the vehicle in a collision, increasing the risk of head and neck injuries. Wearing the seat belt under the arm may cause internal organ injury. Ribs are not as strong as the shoulder bones. Wear the shoulder belt over your shoulder so your strongest bones absorb the force of a collision.
- A shoulder belt positioned behind you will not protect you from injury in a collision. You are likely to strike your head in a collision if you do not wear the shoulder belt. The lap and shoulder belts are designed to be used together.
- A worn or torn seat belt may tear apart in a collision and leave you unprotected. Periodically inspect the seat belt system for cuts, abrasion, or loose components. Damaged parts must be replaced immediately. Do not disassemble or modify the seat belt system. Seat belt assemblies must be replaced after a collision.
