Seat Belt Pretensioner

~1min read

The front outboard seat belt system is equipped with pretensioners designed to eliminate seat belt slack in the event of a crash. These devices can improve seat belt performance by removing slack from the seat belt at the onset of a crash. Pretensioners work for occupants of all sizes, including in child restraints.

NOTE:

These devices do not replace proper seat belt use by the occupant. The seat belt must still be worn snugly and positioned correctly.

Pretensioners are triggered by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). Like airbags, pretensioners are single-use items. A deployed pretensioner or deployed airbag must be replaced immediately.
