Snow Traction Devices

~1min read

Using traction devices requires sufficient clearance between the tire and the body. Due to limited clearance, the following snow traction devices are recommended. Follow these guidelines to prevent damage.

  • The snow traction device must be the correct size for the tire, as recommended by the snow traction device manufacturer.
  • No other tire sizes are recommended for use with the snow traction device.
  • Refer to the table below for the recommended tire size, axle, and snow traction device:

  • Due to the limited clearance of the traction device between the tires and other suspension components, it is important that only traction devices in good condition are used. Broken devices can cause serious damage. Stop the vehicle immediately if noise occurs, as this may indicate device failure. Remove damaged parts of the device before further use.
  • Install the device as tightly as possible, then retighten after driving approximately ½ mile (0.8 km). Autosock traction devices do not require retightening.
  • Do not exceed 30 mph (48 km/h).
  • Drive carefully and avoid sharp turns and large bumps, especially with a loaded vehicle.
  • Do not drive on dry pavement for extended periods.
  • Observe the traction device manufacturer's instructions for installation, operating speed, and operating conditions. Always observe the device manufacturer's recommended operating speed if it is less than 30 mph (48 km/h).
  • Do not use traction devices on a compact spare tire.
