Wheel and Wheel Cover Care

~2min read

All wheels and wheel covers, especially aluminum and chrome wheels, should be cleaned regularly with mild (pH-neutral) soap and water to maintain their shine and prevent corrosion. Wash wheels with the same soap solution recommended for the vehicle body, and always wash them when the surfaces are not hot to the touch.

Your wheels are subject to wear caused by salt, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, and other road chemicals used for de-icing or dust control on unpaved roads. Use a soft cloth or sponge with a mild soap to wipe them off promptly. Do not use harsh chemicals or a stiff brush. They may damage the protective coating that helps keep the wheels from corrosion and dulling.

When cleaning very dirty wheels, including excessive brake dust, use care when selecting tire and wheel cleaners and equipment to prevent wheel damage. Mopar® Wheel Cleaner or Mopar® Chrome Cleaner, or an equivalent, is recommended, or select a non-abrasive, non-acidic cleaner for aluminum or chrome wheels.

NOTE:

If you plan to park or store your vehicle for an extended period after cleaning the wheels with wheel cleaner, drive your vehicle and apply the brakes to remove water droplets from the brake components. This action will remove red rust from the brake discs and prevent vehicle vibration during braking.
