Tire Replacement with TPMS
If you have a flat tire, the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light will illuminate. Have the flat tire repaired by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible, or replace the flat tire with the spare tire.
WARNING! Tire Sealant Agents
Never use a tire puncture repair agent that is not approved by Kia to repair and/or inflate a low tire. Sealants not approved by Kia may damage the tire pressure sensor.
Each wheel is equipped with a tire pressure sensor installed inside the tire behind the valve stem. You must use TPMS-specific wheels. It is recommended that your tires always be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.
Even if you replace the low tire with the spare tire, the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light will remain illuminated until the low tire is repaired and reinstalled on the vehicle.
After replacing a low tire with the spare tire, the TPMS malfunction indicator may illuminate after a few minutes because the TPMS sensor is not installed on the spare wheel.
When the low tire is reinflated to the recommended pressure and installed on the vehicle, or the TPMS sensor is installed on the replacement spare wheel and initialized at an authorized Kia dealer, the TPMS malfunction indicator and the low tire pressure warning light will turn off within a few minutes of driving.
If the indicator does not turn off after a few minutes of driving, please visit an authorized Kia dealer.
When replacing the original installed tire with the spare, the TPMS sensor on the replaced spare wheel must be initialized and the TPMS sensor must be activated. The original installed wheel must be deactivated. If the TPMS sensor on the original installed wheel, stored in the spare wheel holder, is still activated, the tire pressure monitoring system may not operate properly. Have the TPMS tire serviced or replaced at an authorized Kia dealer.
You may not be able to determine low tire pressure simply by looking at the tire. Always use a good quality tire pressure gauge to measure tire pressure. Be aware that a hot tire (from driving) will have a higher pressure reading than a cold tire (from being stationary for at least 3 hours and driving less than 1 mile (1.6 km) during this 3-hour period).
Allow the tire to cool before measuring the inflation pressure. Always make sure the tire is cold before inflating it to the recommended pressure.
A cold tire means the vehicle has been parked for 3 hours and has been driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km) during that 3-hour period.
Never use tire sealant if your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Liquid sealant not approved by Kia may damage the tire pressure monitoring sensors.
CAUTION - TPMS
- The TPMS cannot warn you of serious and sudden tire damage caused by external factors such as nails or road debris.
- If you feel the vehicle becoming unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, apply the brakes gradually with light force, and slowly move to a safe location off the road.
WARNING - Jack Safety
Tampering with, modifying, or disabling Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) components may interfere with the system's ability to warn the driver of low tire pressure and/or a TPMS malfunction. Tampering, modifying, or disabling the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may void the warranty on this vehicle part.
