Emergency Front Belt Fixing Device (EFD) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The emergency fastening device (EFD) operates in the same way as the seat belt pretensioner when it deploys after a collision. It is located next to the anchor on the driver and front passenger seats and serves to compensate for existing slack. The EFD is supported by two cables and is an auxiliary device that prevents the driver and passenger from being thrown forward, since the seat belt tightens toward the anchor side after a collision.
Never measure the EFD resistance directly. The current from the measuring device may cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly.
